Catherine Ford was raised in Bloomsbury by her mother and grandmother. In her childhood Ford experienced anxiety related to an obsessional-compulsive condition. Ford began performing in her teens and became a member of the National Youth Theatre. After being admitted to Sylvia Young Theatre School for brief time but Ford realized it was not the right place for her. Ford was then able to apply to be a student in the Central School of Speech and Drama and received an acceptance on her fourth attempt. Shaun Dingwall - who later played Pete Tyler in Doctor Who was among her classmates. Ford's television debut was in an episode in 1991 called Surgical Spirit. By the time she graduated, Ford already went by "Catherine Tate". Tate first appeared on television in the year 1991, appearing on television shows like The Bill. Men Behaving Badly. and London's Burning. Tate also regularly worked in theatre and eventually joined the Royal Shakespeare Company during its season between 2000 and 2001. But Tate quickly began gaining recognition for her stand-up comedic performances and added stand-up comedy to her show in 1996.
